It's not always easy to spot fake news when it pops up on our storylines, especially when it sounds like it's from a legit news source like the "Cleveland Examiner" (totally made that up). Good tips hfrom NPR below.

Personally, I disregard content with:

- exclamation points in the headline

- use of "libtard" or "RWNJ" in copy

- disparaging personal marks made by author

- use of first or second-person made outside of quotes

- story appears nowhere else

I also see YouTube or Vimeo links passed along as valid news. Sometimes it's disguised to look like a news clip, with a reporter and newsy looking text, but often it's just footage "interpreted" by a narrator. Again, if it's not appearing elsewhere, it may be breaking news you're getting before anyone else - but probably not.
